Song Hye-kyo biography

When Song Hye-kyo was borned, she was sick and her parents and doctor thought she would never make it. Miracoulously Hye-kyo survived and her parents only registered her birth on February 26, 1982.

Song Hye-kyo was introduced into the entertainment world when she won the MTM model contest in 1996 and started appearing on some TV shows, she was just 15.

Song Hye-kyo breakthrough was in 2000 with popular TV drama “Autumn In My Heart” (also known as “Autumn Tale” or “Endless Love”) starring alongside Song Seung-hun and Won-bin.

Not only did she became one of the most popular actress in Korea with the series, the sad-romance drama swept across Asia. Song Hye-kyo and her co-actors became Asian superstar.

Song Hye-kyo starred in another Asian hit South Korean TV drama “Hotelier” in 2001 and once again won her fans with her performance in 2003 with “All In,” where she met Lee Byung-hun and started a relationship that ended in 2005. Song Hye-kyo co-starred with rising Korean pop-singer Rain (Bi) in 2004 TV drama “Full House” and unsuprisingly, she won the heart of Asian fans once again.

Song Hye-kyo is also a popular face for TV commercials, and she starred her first movie in 2005 “My Girl and I” with Cha Tae-hyun. Her movie adventure was however not as successful as her TV adventure, but she is not giving up. Lee Young-Ae (born January 31, 1971) is a Korean actresses for their Japanese counterparts.

I admit I know very little about these Koreans until Jewel In The Palace was shown on TV in Malaysia. Before this TV series, there have been a series of Korean TV serials that took Hong Kong, Taiwan, Japan, Singapore, Indonesia and Philippines by storm.

Thank god for the subtitles, otherwise none of us could relate to the Korean TV shows and movies.

Practically, the only person I can associate right now with Korean shows is Lee Young Ae. She's that very sweet actress who landed the coveted role in Jewel In The Palace and brought more publicity to South Korea than the entire South Korean Tourism Authority and Tourism Ministry combined.

For a while back there, Lee was nicknamed the Asian Sweetheart. It's true, she's really quite pretty. Hong Kong has fallen head over heels in love with her when her TV series overtook all its local productions in the popularity ratings.

I recall seeing her being interviewed on Hong Kong television. She was very careful in how she conducted herself as she knew she represented her entire nation.

In the interview, she projected herself as being intelligent, demure and soft-spoken. Qualities that every Asian mother would want in a daughter and every Asian man would want in a wife.

The direct translation of Jewel In The Palace which stamped her mark permanently in the television hall of ame is Dae Jang Geum.

It was reported that when the concluding episode of this series was shown in Hong Kong, about half of Hong Kong's population stayed home to watch it.

Lee was born on January 31, 1971 in Seoul. She's of normal height for an Asian woman - 1.65m. Before anyone can jump to the conclusion that she's "just an ordinary actress of no great significance", let it be known that she has a Bachelor's degree from the Hanyang University in German language and literature.

So we can safely assume that Lee speaks German quite fluently. If that is not enough, Lee also has a Masters degree from Chung-an University. She majored in theatre and film. She also speaks English quite well.

The Korean actress has two other siblings. Both of them brothers. For the benefit of her hardcore fans, Lee Young Ae loves horse-riding, swimming, and playing the piano.

And when she has a lot of free time, she also dabbles in a bit of singing. Even though, she hasn't won any singing contest, I reckon in the eyes of her admirers, she's already a Korean Idol of sorts.

Nuclear Envoys From South Korea, US to Meet in Ny Over North Korea

South Korea chief nuclear envoy Chun Yung-woo will meet with his U.S. counterpart in New York next week to discuss detailed ways of persuading North Korea back to the six-way talks on its nuclear program, a government official said.

"Chun is scheduled to leave for New York next Tuesday, and meet with Assistant Secretary of State Christopher Hill on Thursday ," the official said, on condition of anonymity. The Chun-Hill meeting follows up on an agreement at the just-ended summit between the leaders of the two countries in Washington.

On Thursday, President Roh Moo-hyun and President George W. Bush agreed to a "common and broad approach" for the resumption of the long-stalled multilateral negotiations to end the North's nuclear weapons program.

Both leaders refused to go into details, saying that working-level consultations are still under way. Roh's chief security advisor, Song Min-soon, later told the media that the two countries' lead delegates to the nuclear talks will meet next week.

Chun also plans to have a three-way meeting with Hill and Japan's nuclear envoy Kenichiro Sasae next weekend in New York, the official said. Asked why New York was chosen as the venue, he cited the United Nations General Assembly meeting under way there, which will draw foreign ministers from member states.

US beef exports get green light to South Korea

South Korea has agreed to readmit beef exports from the US. Australia's share of the market has grown by 120 per cent since US beef was banned in 2004, and is now worth $600 million.

Meat and Livestock Australia (MLA) says the resumption of the American beef trade could cut the value of our exports by more than 20 per cent. South Korea's Agriculture Ministry has just announced that 36 US slaughterhouses designated to handle meat for export to South Korea met required safety measures, clearing the last hurdle to the resumption of imports.

MLA Korean manager, Glen Feist says the Americans have had a tough time convincing the Koreans to accept meat with bone chip fragment.
"The protocol is no bones, but everybody knows in our industry that from time to time you do get bone chips on the primal cuts of beef through boning problems, especially in the biggest US plants," he said.

This may at the end of the day may hold things up further because they need to resolve the bone chip issue." Meanwhile, the US has only shipped 100 tonnes of beef to Japan, after regaining access to the market a month ago. The start of the export program has been slower than expected because of strict protocols and a lack of consumer demand.

Korean Food - Pork Ribs BBQ(Toeji kalbi kui)

Pork ribs are usually cooked spicy with chili paste, but for a simpler taste, after marinating the meat in rice wine and ginger juice, marinate in 'bul-go-gi' sauce. If the meat is cooked slowly in low heat, the meat becomes tough, so cooking quickly in high heat is better.

Basic Ingredients

1.8kg pork ribs, 2 tablespoons of ginger juice, 3 tablespoons of clear strained rice wine for sauce 8 tablespoons of chili

paste, 2 tablespoons of chili powder, 1 tablespoons of soy sauce, 2 tablespoons of sugar, 3 tablespoons of ground garlic,

1/2 cup of chopped green onion, sesame salt, pepper, sesame oil

Recipe

1. Cut the ribs into 6-7cm lengths. Take off the fat and tough muscles. put the knife in to the bones and then flat out the muscle attached to the bone. Make knife marks on the meat.

2. Marinate the prepared pork in clear strained rice wine and ginger juice.

3. Prepare the sauce by mixing chili powder, soy sauce, sugar, minced garlic, green onion, sesame salt, pepper and sesame oil in chili paste.

4. Marinate the prepared pork from 2. with sauce from 3.

5. Grill the pork in high heat by turning it often. To make sure it is thoroughly cooked, lower the heat and cook slowly.

6. It is a good idea to cook some whole garlics with it.
